The delivery of Edinburgh Medication Assisted Treatment Clinic has been very positively evaluated in an independent review of its operation.
EdMAC was established to help Edinburgh meet Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Standard 1 (same-day access to MAT), by providing a low-threshold, central ‘single-door’ route to rapid assessment and titration, reducing the historic variation in waiting times. It provides a daily drop in assessment for Medication Assisted Treatment and initiation where appropriate, meaning that people from all over the city are able to begin treatment (if clinically appropriate) 5 days of the week at the Spittal street centre.
The service is funded by the EADP and the Corra foundation and delivery is led by the Health and Social Care Partnership. It has been running since December 2023 and the evaluation, undertaken by independent research consultancy Figure 8, found that:
- Core delivery is in place and operating at pace.
- EdMAC is converting contact into starts and treatment continuity
- Patient-reported experience is consistently positive
