Development of the Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership strategy 2024-27
The Edinburgh ADP, along with its partners and all those with an interest, are developing the city’s drug and alcohol strategy for the next 3 years. This will be the guiding document on how the city addresses drug and alcohol related harm from 2024-2027.
The new strategy will capture the progress which has been made and define the key priorities for the next three years – all partners will commit to implementing the principles and aims of the strategy so it will have a real impact on the city and it’s people.
The ADP is determined that the strategy should be developed jointly by all of the people with a knowledge of or interest in drug and alcohol use – with the voices of people with lived and living experience of drugs and alcohol being central. Co-production to date has included a large stakeholder event in October 2023 as well as an ongoing engagement with diverse groups and communities across the city.
This new draft strategy will replace the current strategy which was written in 2021. Since then, there have been significant changes in Scotland’s approach to drugs and alcohol.
These have included:
- The declaration of the National Mission to reduce drug related deaths
- Substantial increased investment in drug services
- National development of safer drug consumption facilities and drugs checking
- Continuing rises in alcohol related deaths and drug related deaths
- Development of the Whole family approach framework and National collaborative
